Personal Patchwork
2005, Student Work
Originally the assignment was to integrate type, a shape (illustration), and an image (a.k.a. a photo)... However, my interpretation started to become something else, and my open-minded professor, Deb Hall, encouraged me to run with the idea.
The result is a section of patchwork quilt that is meant to represent different aspects of me. The London skyline lines the bottom – I lived there when I was younger for three years, and then was sent there for a freshman semester abroad from Skidmore. More constant things: my brother, my dog, the love of nature, travel, and music are pictured. More transient things are also pictured: childhood toys, waves, then girlfriends, memories, and relatives are all referenced.
This piece was included in the Student Exhibition alongside the Bolivian Wrestlers in the Schick Art Gallery.
